New, But Not “New, New”

Growing up I always wanted to live in the US and when the opportunity presented itself to come here for college and race bikes across the US I knew it was something I couldn’t pass up. After a year of college studying business analytics I started becoming more interested in finance and specifically investments. It was at this point where I knew I wanted to learn more about the industry and subsequently reached out to Austin Crites to find out more about the different opportunities that lay within the industry, specifically pertaining to the CFA designation. After I had my first conversation with Austin he asked if I would be interested in doing equity research for Aurora as an intern and I knew this was something I couldn’t pass up as it would be my first step in the door of the finance world.

While at Marian University I was heavily involved in cycling competing across the US and achieving 4x 2nd places at national championships. I had previously been a competitive cyclist in New Zealand and have been racing for over 10 years. While at Marian I had also completed internships with the Indiana Public Retirement System working as an Investment Analyst for 6 months working with the private markets and asset allocation team. I also worked at Asphalt Materials Inc for two summers in Finance and Supply Chain Management. During my junior year I participated in the CFA Research Challenge where my team won the Indiana portion of the competition. In my senior year I started studying for the CFA level 1 exam which I sat in May 2023.

After moving to Indy from a smaller city called Hamilton in New Zealand it really opened my eyes to the abundance of opportunities there are here and across the US. That made it a fairly easy decision to stay after graduation and work here. The ability and access to companies I would be investing in is infinitely greater than back in New Zealand and a company like Aurora has allowed me freedom to expand my knowledge across a variety of industries and I am excited to learn more in the future along with uncovering value in great companies.
